Data Point: Earning 40,000 Miles on My 3rd Barclaycard Arrival Plus

Update: The 40,000 miles posted to my account within 1-2 days of meeting the $3,000 minimum spending requirement.

I’ve written quite a bit about the Barlcaycard Arrival Plus Card and how it’s a solid, straightforward everyday card. Plus, the 40,000 bonus miles equate to $420 in free travel, which overall is an solid sign-up bonus in itself.

In my humble opinion, both the simplicity and sizable sign-up bonus (worth $420) make it a strong option when choosing cards to apply for.

This is actually my 3rd Barclaycard Arrival Plus 40,000 mile offer I’ve been approved for. All virtually back-to-back, I closed and reapplied for a new card within 1-2 weeks. This is good news since it means Barclays is fairly laid back about approving anyone applying for the same card multiple times.

I’ve heard of people being approved for the card twice, but haven’t heard any reports of people getting approved a 3rd time. So, I decided to test the waters…

…and I was instantly approved.

Yes, that means that it’s entirely possible to get approved and earn the 40,000 bonus points sign-up bonus on the Arrival Plus Card at least 3 times.

That’s my experience, what about you – have you been approved for the Arrival + more than once?

  1. Mordy, between the 1st and 2nd card I waited a couple days and between the 2nd and 3rd card I waited a couple weeks. hope that helps, although I’m not sure it really matters as long as you don’t have excessive Barclay cards open at the time of applying.

  2. Awesome! Back to back you mean literally same day?

    • Between the closing the first and applying for the second card I waited a day or two, and between the second and third it was a couple weeks since I was waiting to apply for other card offers. I’d say you’re better off waiting at a least a day to make sure the whole process went through when closing the existing card, so maybe not same day!

      • So if I understand this right then you: 1) got first card, completed spend, cancelled (Did you wait for points to post? Based on timetable I’m guessing not). 2) Got card two, within days of card 1, repeated process. 3) got third card a few weeks later, repeated process… Do I have this right?

        • Jordan, I typically keep each card I have for close to a year or more. In this case I cancelled the first card when the fee posted for the second year, same goes for the second card. This means each application was at least ~1 year apart. Hope that clarifies things!
