Update 5/10/2016: The offer is now expired.

American Express is offering an amazing 100,000 Membership Rewards points sign-up bonus on the Amex Platinum card.

You’ll earn 100,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 within the first 3 months on the card.

100K Sign-up Bonus on the Amex Platinum Card-01

This offer is publicly available and probably won’t last long. In the past when these increased sign-up bonus offers went live they only lasted for a few days.

Normally American Express only sends out targeted offers at this level on the Platinum card, so this is a great way to earn the higher sign-up bonus.

Quick Notes: Amex’s terms state that the bonus offer is only for first time cardmembers, so if you have had this card in the past you won’t qualify. The card does have a $450 annual fee, which is not waived the first year.

This is a separate product from the Mercedes Benz American Express Platinum Card, which means you can earn the bonus on this card if you have already had the Mercedes Benz version.

100K Sign-up Bonus on the Amex Platinum Card-02

This is a charge card, which means that it may be easier to get approved since the card does not have a pre-set spending limit and must be paid in full every month. There are also many reports that it is possible to get approved for two Amex charge cards or combination of charge and credit card on the same day.

The application does still result in a hard pull, but you can combine pulls if you apply for another Amex offer, such as the Hilton HHonors Surpass and Hilton HHonors Amex.

Amex Platinum Card Benefits

$200 Air Travel Credit

The card offers an annual $200 airline travel credit, which is offered per calendar year. This means that you can use the $200 credit both this calendar year and next—getting $400 in airline travel credit back before the 2nd annual fee hits!

Note: You need to enroll and designate an airline online here. Authorized users do not get an additional $200 air travel credit, but they are allowed to make charges that apply towards the shared $200 credit.

Airport Lounge Access

As long are you keep the card you’ll get complimentary airport lounge access to these lounges:

An easy way to get extra free lounge access for a spouse/partner is to add an authorized user on your card. Any authorized user will also get the same airport lounge access offered to the primary cardholder.

$100 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck Credit

The Amex Platinum card offers a $100 fee credit when you apply for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck.

Free Hotel Status

You’ll get complimentary hotel elite status with both Starwood Preferred Guest, Hilton HHonors, and Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts:

No Foreign Transaction Fee

The card does not have a foreign transaction fee, which make sit a good choice to take on international trips.

Platinum Card Concierge Service

The Platinum Card concierge service offers assistance with booking travel, making reservations, and researching general information and logistics about a travel destination.

The Bottom Line

The Amex Platinum card does come with a high $450 annual fee, but the bundle of valuable travel perks paired with the 100k Membership Rewards points sign-up bonus makes this an incredibly enticing offer.

In my opinion the travel perks and bonus points easily outweigh the annual fee and make this a great time to go for the Amex Platinum card. If you are interested in this offer I would suggest applying sooner than later since this offer likely won’t last long.
