Today Barclaycard launched it’s new co-branded American Airlines credit card which is called the AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite MasterCard.
Applications are now live for the card and it’s offering a 40,000 miles welcome bonus after the first purchase within the first 90 days (OFFER EXPIRED).
It’s interesting to see American Airlines working with a second credit card issuer—typically it’s one airline, one bank. However, now there are AA credit cards issued by both Citi and Barlcaycard.
This is nice to see and given the more restrictive sign-up rules some card issuers are adopting it ultimately makes it possible to more easily earn American Airline miles.
Let’s take a closer look at what the card has to offer.

40,000 Mile Welcome Offer
Barclaycard’s new AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite MasterCard comes with a 40,000 AAdvantage mile welcome bonus after the first purchase within the first 90 days.
Given that there is not minimum spending requirement, this card will be perfect to add into the mix during a round of credit card applications.
The AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite MasterCard comes with, more-or-less, your standard airline credit card benefits. Nothing too exciting to write home about, but some nice perks if you fly frequently on American Airlines.
Card benefits include:

- Earn 2X miles for every dollar spent on all other purchases.
- 25% inflight savings on food, beverages, and headsets on American Airlines-operated flights.
- 10% of your redeemed miles back (10,000 maximum per calendar year).
- First checked bag free for the primary cardmember and up to 4 companions on eligible bags when traveling on domestic itineraries operated by American Airlines.
- Group 1 boarding for the primary cardmember on domestic itineraries operated by American Airlines.
Annual and Foreign Transaction Fees
The card does have a $95 annual fee, which is not waived the first year.
On the other hand it does offer no foreign transactions fees, so it could be another possible card to take on international trips.
