Who Should Consider the JetBlue Plus Card?

If you fly JetBlue often, or if they are your airline of choice then get the JetBlue Plus Card. On all purchases made directly through Jetblue, you will quickly accumulate enough points for a memorable redemption.

Living near a JetBlue hub is also a great reason to get the JetBlue Plus card, even if you don’t travel often. JetBlue has its main hub at New York JFK International Airport and secondary hubs at FLL, MCO, IED, and LBG.

Welcome Offer and Earning Categories

The welcome bonus awards 30,000 Points after $1,000 in purchases within 90 days of account opening.  This may not seem like many points, but in fact it is enough for a round trip domestic flight on JetBlue. Using points wisely can turn your 30,000 points into three round trip domestic tickets.

With the purchase of a Getaways vacation worth at least $100 you will receive a statement credit for $100. This can really help cut down on travel costs and it justifies the annual fee for the first year!

The spending categories on the JetBlue Plus card are limited. Jetblue will award two points for every one dollar spent at grocery stores and restaurants. All other purchases accrue one point. If you purchase flights and vacation packages directly through Jetblue’s website, you will earn six points per dollar spent!

The sign up

To sign up for the card, simply apply online. When applying, make sure you have documents such as a W2, SSN and Bank statements at the ready. After you’ve taken a second look to verify everything is correct, click apply. You may get a pending message which means Barclays needs more time before deciding. However, you most likely will get a decision in a matter of seconds.

Other JetBlue Plus Card Benefits

The JetBlue Plus Card has plenty of benefits other than the welcome bonus.

The JetBlue Plus Card offers 0% APR for 12 months after account opening. Once the promotional APR period is up, APR could jump all the way up to 25.24% APR.

This card has chip technology, making it safer and easier for use during internationally.

There are other benefits that make the JetBlue Plus Card worthwhile. For starters You get 50% off all purchases made inflight. This could cut costs by a large margin when traveling with family!

Each year that you Spend $50,000 on your JetBlue Plus Card you will receive TrueBlue Mosaic benefits for a full year! As a Mosaic member you will have all flight change and cancellation fees waived. Mosaic also waives your 1st and 2nd checked bag fee! Once you qualify for Mosaic, a bonus of 15,000 points is applied to your account! All Mosaic members also are able to use expedited security lanes in domestic airports. That is not it, as Mosaic member you can board early and get complimentary alcohol while on board!

Unlike other airline reward programs the JetBlue Plus card does not have blackout dates so you can redeem your TrueBlue points for any spot on any JetBlue Plane.

There will be a 10% rebate on all your award redemptions!

Comparing the JetBlue Plus Card to Other Airline Cards

When you compare this airline card with other airline cards, it holds its own.

JetBlue Plus Card vs. AAdvantage Platinum Select

The JetBlue Plus Card charges an annual fee of $99, while a CitiBank AAdvantage Platinum Select has an annual fee of only $95 which is waived for the first year.

However, the CitiBank AAdvantage does not award any miles upon the anniversary of the account, while the JetBlue Plus Card awards 5,000 points.

JetBlue’s offer of $100 statement credit effectively makes the annual fee waived for the first year. For this reason, the JetBlue Plus card is on par with most other major airline cards.

JetBlue Plus Card vs. United Explorer Card

The Explorer Card only earns you two points per dollar on United flights, whereas the JetBlue Plus Card awards six points per dollar spent on JetBlue purchases. The United Explorer Card does not have any spending categories like the grocery and restaurant category on the JetBlue Plus Card.

The United Explorer card does beat the JetBlue Plus Card when it comes to the annual fee. You must pay for the annual fee the first year on the JetBlue Plus Card, where the annual fee of $95 is waived the first year for the United Explorer card.

Both cards award the same welcome bonus, however, TrueBlue points have redemptions that require fewer points than United miles requires. For this and the reasons mentioned above, the JetBlue Plus Card is similar if not better than other airline credit cards.

Final Thoughts on the JetBlue Plus Card.

The welcome bonus awards up to three domestic round trip flights if you use your points carefully. That alone makes this card a good deal, especially because the 100$ statement credit effectively waives the annual fee for the first year. After the first year, keeping the card depends on how much you fly JetBlue, as 5,000 anniversary points is not equivalent to the annual fee.

This card is great if you live in one of JetBlue’s hubs, or if you want a card with zero APR for 12 months. If you will spend over $50,o00 in one year, do it on this card because the Mosaic benefits are perfect for constant JetBlue travelers.
