Do you have a Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards, Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards, Capital One® SavorOne® Cash Rewards, Capital One® Venture® Rewards, or a Capital One® VentureOne® Rewards credit card?

You can earn $100 every time you refer a friend to your credit card through the Capital One® Refer a Friend program.

Capital One® offers one of the most generous referral programs in the industry as long as you have a qualifying Capital One® card with the ability to earn up to $500 per year just by sharing with your friends the rewards card benefits you already enjoy.

Here's how to use the Capital One® referral program to start earning statement credits today.

What Is Capital One® Refer a Friend?

The Capital One® Refer a Friend program is a referral program for Capital One® cardholders with select Capital One® cards.

The program allows you to earn an impressive $100 referral bonus when you refer someone who gets approved for the same Capital One® credit card you have.

Through the program, you send a friend a unique referral link that they can use to apply for the same Capital One® card you have. You can earn up to $500 per year through Capital One® referrals.

If you have any of these Capital One® cards and know someone who could enjoy the same benefits you do, it definitely pays to refer them:

The referral program rewards you both: you get a $100 statement credit and your friend will still qualify for a welcome offer from Capital One®.

How Does Capital One® Refer a Friend Work?

The Capital One® Refer a Friend program is a bit different than other credit card referral programs.

While it seems now that all Capital One® cardholders with qualifying cards can earn referral bonuses, Capital One® has in the past only offered referral bonuses to targeted cardholders.

Unlike many referral programs, Capital One® offers the same referral bonus no matter which card you refer, as long as your friend is approved for a participating card.

Every referral earns you $100 with a cap of $500 in referral bonuses per year.

The process of referring someone to a Capital One® credit card is easy:

  • Generate your unique referral link by signing into your Capital One® account or using the app
  • Share your referral link with your friends
  • Get a $100 bonus when your friend uses your link and gets approved for a Capital One® card

Note: you can only refer someone to the card you have.

If you only have a Capital One® Venture® card (learn more) and your friend uses your link but signs up for the Capital One® Savor® card (learn more) instead, you won't get a referral bonus.

You won't earn a referral bonus if your friend is already a Capital One® cardholder, even if they have never had the Capital One® card you're referring them to.

For example, if your friend has the Capital One® Quicksilver® (learn more) and you refer them to the Capital One® Venture®, you probably won't get a bonus.

Once your friend is approved, you will receive the referral bonus as a statement credit somewhere between a few days and 4 weeks.

To qualify for a referral bonus, you must meet these basic requirements:

  • Your account must be open and in good standing.
  • You must have a qualifying Capital One® Quicksilver®, Savor®, SavorOne®, Venture®, or VentureOne® credit card.
  • Your friend cannot be a current Capital One® cardholder.

Refer a Friend Online

The only way to refer someone to a Capital One® card is online, not through the Capital One® app.

Log into your Capital One® account and select the credit card you want to refer, then choose "Refer a Friend" from the "I Want To..." menu.

You may also receive a targeted email from Capital One® inviting you to refer a friend for a referral bonus.

Capital One® Cards That You Can Refer a Friend

Some credit card referral programs like American Express allow you to earn referral bonuses with any of the card issuer's cards, but not Capital One®.

Most of Capital One®'s most popular rewards cards participate in the Refer a Friend program, but some cards are excluded.

You won't earn a referral bonus for these cards:

  • Capital One® Platinum card
  • Capital One® QuicksilverOne® card (but the Quicksilver® qualifies)
  • Capital One® Journey® Student Rewards
  • Capital One® Secured Mastercard®
  • Capital One® Walmart Rewards™ Mastercard®
  • BuyPower Card® and BuyPower Business Card™
  • Cabela's CLUB® Card and Bass Pro Shops® CLUB Card

Only the following Capital One® cards qualify for a $100 Refer a Friend bonus:

Now you can share you referral code and earn $300 per successful Capital One® Spark® Business credit card referral.

Wrap Up

While it's unfortunate that Capital One® excludes its student from its referral program, it still offers one of the most generous referral bonuses in the game.

All five qualifying personal Capital One® cards have the same referral bonus of $100 (up to $500 total) and Capital One®'s most popular rewards cards are included in the promotion, including no annual fee cards.

If you have a Capital One® business card you can also refer business and earn $300 per referral.

If you know someone who could benefit from the straightforward cash back or travel rewards card you already enjoy, it definitely pays to send them your referral link and make sure you're both rewarded.
