Via the Frequent Miler blog, Chase is set to increase the sign-up bonuses on both the Sapphire Preferred and the Freedom credit cards.
The sign-up bonus on the Sapphire Preferred card is expected to increase to a total of 55,000 points and the Freedom card to 17,500 points.
We haven’t seen the sign-up offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred this high in awhile, making this new offer a great time to apply for the card if you are eligible to earn the 55,000 sign-up bonus (see below).
Now, let’s look at the details. (Remember, until the offers are officially released this information is purely speculation.)
Both offers are said to be available on November 16, 2015. There is also a chance that the offers will first be exclusively available through Chase’s refer-a-friend program, as increased Chase offered have been marketed in the past.
Chase Sapphire Preferred 55,000 Bonus Point Offer
The Chase Sapphire Preferred card typically offers a 40,000 point sign-up bonus after spending $4,000 within 3 months, with an additional 5,000 points earned by adding an authorized user. The new offer will be available for 50,000 bonus points plus 5,000 bonus points after adding an authorized user.
Note: Be sure to double check the annual fee on the increased offer. In the past Chase has tested offering the CSP card with a higher $150 annual fee, and this may be the case with the increased offer coming out.
The Sapphire Preferred card earns Ultimate Rewards points. These are flexible bank-points that can be transferred at a 1:1 ratio to any of Chase’s Ultimate Rewards travel partners. Check out the flexible bank-point transfer guide I created for a quick look at which travel partner you can transfer Ultimate Rewards points to.
Chase Freedom 17,500 Bonus Point Offer
This offer is not an all-time high, but still better than the normal sign-up offer on the Chase Freedom credit card. Typically the card’s standard offer is for 10,000 Ultimate Rewards points earned after spending $500 within 3 months, but from time-t0-time we’ve seen limited time 20,000 point offers.
The offer expected to come out will be for 15,000 Ultimate Rewards points plus an additional 2,500 points after adding an authorized user.
Ultimate Rewards points earned on the Chase Freedom card are not directly transferrable to Chase’s Ultimate Rewards travel partners. However, it is possible to do so if you or your spouse have a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Ink card. In this case you can easily transfer points from one account to another online.
Make Sure You’ll Eligible…
If you have earned the sign-up bonus on one of these cards in the past make sure you earned the points more than 24 months ago. Also you cannot have the one of these cards open at the time of applying.
….now let’s wait and see when these offers go live!
