The Chase IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card has long been one of my all-time favorite credit cards. I wrote a full in-depth review on the card back when the card was offering a public 80,000 point sign-up offer.
The 80,000 point sign-up bonus no longer has a working application link, but Chase is matching this higher offer after you apply and send them a secure message!
If you have recently applied or are thinking about applying for the card it’s definitely worth requesting for a higher offer match.
Best Offer – 80,000 Points
The IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card has been offering a great publicly available sign-up bonus of 70,000 IHG points after spending $2,000 within the first 3 months. You can also earn an extra 5,000 points when you add an authorized user that makes a purchase within the first 3 months.
But it gets better than this, it now appears possible to earn up 85,000 IHG points! You can apply for the card and earn the 75,000 points from the current offer found here.
After you are approved for the card you can send Chase a secure message with a request to match the higher 80,0000 point offer. This means getting an additional 10,000 IHG points more than the public offer.
From my recent experience this worked, but as always your mileage may vary with getting a higher offer matched.
I recently sent Chase a secure message asking if they could match the 80,000 point offer for a family member who applied for the IHG credit card. Within one day received a response from Chase confirming they would! You can also find additional data points on /r/churning here.
The IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card comes with some valuable perks that makes keeping the card past the first year.
I have decided to keep my IHG credit card open for four years now and don’t plan to close it anytime soon. I’ll happily pay the low $49 annual fee year-after-year as long as the card continues to offer a free night at any IHG property.
Given the relatively low annual fee it’s easy to come out ahead when the free night is redeemed at a upper-tier IHG property. Heck, if you planned it right you could even stay a night at a IHG hotel (such as the InterContinental Le Moana Bora Bora) that costs $800+ per night—for only $49!
Other benefits that the card gives you include automatic IHG Platinum Elite status which gives you:
- Free internet
- 50% bonus points on paid stays
- Room upgrades
It’s also worth mentioning that as a IHG credit cardholder you also get a 10% rebate on IHG Rewards Club points redeemed throughout the year. This means that from redeeming the 80,000 points sign-up bonus you will get 8,000 points back as a rebate.
The card also has no foreign transaction fees, so you can use the card on any of your international travels and not pay any fees.
How to Get Chase to Match a Higher Offer
Chase is typically very good about matching a higher sign-up bonus on a credit card if you applied within the last 3 months.
You can send Chase a secure message through your online account and should received a response back within a few days.
Here is an idea of what you can send in the message:
I attempted to apply for the 80,000 points offer on the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card. The offer can be found here: https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/ihg/ihgsaml80. However, the page redirected me to a 70,000 points offer. I would like to kindly request if it is possible for Chase to match the 80,000 points offer?
I recently submitted an application for a family member who applied last week for the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card. I decided to send the secure message off to Chase even before they received the card in the mail.
I received a response from Chase within one day confirming that they will match the higher 80,000 point sign-up bonus offer.
Chase requested that we send another secure message after the minimum spending requirement of $2,000 within the first 3 months. After that another 10,000 IHG points will be credited.
As always, requesting a match of a higher offer is a YMMV, but it seems like there is a very good chance Chase is extending this to anyone who requests it.
With it’s low $49 annual fee, valuable sign-up bonus, and annual free night the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card is a great hotel credit card option offered by Chase.
The highest publicly available offer on the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card is the 70,000 point sign-up bonus after spending $2,000 within the first 3 months + 5,000 points for adding an authorized user.
But now it’s possible to apply for this offer and send Chase a secure message requesting to match the past higher 80,000 point sign-up offer.
The takeaway is if you have recently applied or planning to apply for the IHG credit card remember to request a match to the higher offer.

Quick review: Starpoints are incredibly valuable when redeemed for free nights and flexible since you can transfer them to numerous airline programs. When Starpoints are transferred to an airline program in increments of 20,000 points you get 5,000 extra miles. This means that for every dollar you spend on the card you are essentially earning 1.25 miles of the airline of your choice.
