What Is Chase Refer a Friend?

The Chase Refer a Friend program is a referral program that Chase cardholders can use to earn bonus points or cash back when a referred friend signs up for a Chase credit card.

To use the program, someone you refer must be approved for a Chase credit card using your unique referral link which you can generate through the Refer a Friend landing page.

The program allows you to earn up to $500 cash back or 100,000 bonus points every year.

If you have a Chase rewards card, it definitely pays to participate in the Refer a Friend program.

Maybe you have a friend that’s heard about the travel perks you enjoy with the United Explorer card or the free stays you’ve earned with the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card and they’re ready to enjoy the same perks.

By simply giving them your referral link, you can both earn bonus points: the referral bonus for you and the welcome offer for them.

Even a single referral bonus can go a long way toward earning free flights, hotel stays, and other travel rewards and it’s definitely the easiest way to earn a lot of credit card points in a hurry if you know someone who might be interested.

How Does Chase Refer a Friend Work?

The Chase Refer a Friend program is very simple:

  • Generate your personal referral link using one of the steps below.
  • Send your referral link to a friend or family member via text, email, Twitter, Facebook, or through the Chase mobile app.
  • Once your friend applies and gets approved using your link, you get a referral bonus.

It’s easy to use Chase’s Refer a Friend program

The referral bonus you receive depends on which credit card you refer. You may get anywhere from $50 to $150 cash back or up to 20,000 bonus points per referral up to an annual limit.

To earn a referral bonus, you need to make sure you have an eligible Chase credit card and understand the fine print.

Only some Chase credit cards are eligible for the Refer a Friend program. The good news is the list includes many of the most popular Chase cards. You can find out which cards qualify below.

The biggest catch with the Chase Refer a Friend program is you can only refer friends and family to the specific Chase card you have, unlike the American Express Refer a Friend program.

That means if you have the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card and your friend uses your referral link but signs up for The World of Hyatt Credit Card instead, you won’t get a bonus.

There’s one exception: Chase Southwest cards.

If you have a Southwest credit card, you can refer people to any other participating Southwest card.

You won’t be told when someone you refer applies for a Chase card or if they are approved or denied. If someone you refer is approved, though, the referral bonus points will appear within two billing cycles or about 8 weeks

How to Refer a Friend To Chase Credit Cards

Follow these tips to get the most out of Chase’s Refer a Friend program. There are several ways to create referrals and send them to your friends.

Refer a Friend Online

To participate in Chase Refer a Friend, you simply go to the Chase Refer a Friend landing page and enter your zip code, last name, and the last four digits of your Chase card.

On the next page, you enter the name and email address of the person you want to refer or choose the option to post a link on Facebook or Twitter.

You’ll also get a personalized referral link you can share.

Keep in mind using the Chase website to send referral emails can take up to one week.

An alternative is simply copying your personalized link and sending it directly to your friends.

Refer a Friend on Mobile

Chase also allows you to Refer a Friend through the Chase mobile app.

After logging in, click on the dots near “pay card” and select “Refer Friends” from the menu.

You’ll have the option to send your referral link through the app by text or email.

Chase Cards That You Can Refer a Friend

Ready to see what type of referral bonus you can get with your Chase credit card?

Many Chase rewards credit cards participate in Refer a Friend to earn cash back or bonus points.

Note that referral bonuses — and even the Chase credit cards that participate — are subject to change.

Unfortunately, the person you refer may not be getting the best welcome offer, either.

The public sign-up offer, an in-branch offer, or a personalized offer through CardMatch may be better than what your friend will get through the referral link.

Chase is known for offering certain welcome offers only in physical branches for bank customers.

Here are the Chase credit cards currently participating in Chase Refer a Friend plus the referral bonuses you can earn.
