The Chase Sapphire Reserve is quickly becoming the hottest high-end credit card on the market.

Not only does the card come with an incredibly valuable 100,000 Ultimate Rewards welcome bonus (OFFER EXPIRED), but the card offers great travel perks such as a $300 annual travel credit, airport lounge access, and $100 credit for Global

Over 5/24? Get Chase Sapphire Reserve With In-Branch Pre-Approval

If you are like myself you have exceeded Chase's 5/24 rule---that is, you have opened more than 5 new cards within the last two years. This is clearly not hard to do if you are in the game of earning airline miles and points from credit cards.

This doesn't mean that you cannot open a new Chase credit card, particularly the new Chase Sapphire Reserve card that just launched this week.

There is a proven way to bypass Chase's 5/24 rule. I can confirm that it works as I was approved for the Chase Sapphire Reserve yesterday.

The method works by going into a Chase branch and asking if you are pre-approved for any Chase credit cards. The banker you're working with should be able to see any pre-approved cards by either checking your existing Chase account profile or entering your social security number.

Tips For Getting Pre-Approved

None of these are for sure bets for getting pre-approved for Chase credit cards, but following these may help getting pre-approved for a Chase credit card:

  • Make sure you are not 'opting out' for pre-screened credit cards offers. You should be able change you preference and either 'opt-in' or 'opt-out' at www.optoutprescreen.com.
  • Be an existing Chase checking or savings account customer. Don't forget you can earn some nice cash bonus offers when opening up either a personal or business checking account.
  • It may help if you have opened up fewer than 2-3 Chase credit cards in the past year. I can't confirm this, but I have been holding off on applying for Chase credit cards and believe that this may be a factor for which pre-approved offers appear on your account.
  • If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred card it may be the case that you won't get a pre-approval offer for the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

My Experience Getting Approved For The Chase Sapphire Reserve

I decided to stop by my local Chase branch yesterday and see if any pre-approval offers showed up under my account.

After a quick chat with the banker she checked my account and surprisingly I was pre-approved for every Ultimate Reward earning credit cards, including the new Chase Sapphire Reserve. I also had the United MileagePlus Explorer 50k offer show up on my account.

I decided to pull the trigger and apply for the Sapphire Reserve, but still had small hopes of being approved as I'm well over 5/24.

However, in less than a minute she was handing me a packet and said I was approved.  She also pointed out the specific interested rate that I qualified for on my new account. This may be an indicator of a 'true' pre-approval vs. a pre-qaulified offer.
