Well Traveled Mile reader Brian asks “how long does it take to earn the 40,000 US Airways miles bonus?”
The US Airways® Premier World MasterCard® is offering 40,000 US Airways bonus miles after making the first purchase and paying the $89 annual fee. With no minimum spending requirement this is one of the easiest airline mile credit card offers out there.
With the American Airlines and US Airways merger moving forward this card will not be offered much longer, but there is still time to apply and earn the 40,000 miles! You’ll earn the miles as long as you apply while the application links are still available, and I can’t say for sure when they will disappear, but my best guess would be something before the end of the year.
To earn the 40,000 bonus miles all you need to do is make your first purchase with the card and pay the annual fee within three months of opening the account. This means you can buy your morning cup of coffee with the card, pay the annual fee, and easily have up to $700 in free flights. US Airways has among the most flexible and valuable award charts out there that lets you add generous stopovers and one-ways.
How Long To Earn The 40,000 US Airways MasterCard Bonus?
To earn the 40,000 bonus miles on the US Airways Premier World MasterCard you will need to make a first purchase and pay the $89 annual fee. After being approved all you need to do is use the card once and then pay off the annual fee when it posts to your account.
You’re likely to to get the miles on or after your second statement date. Here is a review of how long it took the 40,000 bonus miles to post to my account when I applied for the US Airways card the second time.
First purchase: 6/16/2014
Annual fee posted to my statement: 6/30/2014
Payment of annual fee: 7/14/2014
40,000 bonus miles posted: 8/6/2014
This means that it took 51 days from my first purchase for the 40,000 US Airways miles post to my account. That seems pretty quick to me, and depending on how quickly you make the first purchase and pay off the annual fee, the timeline may differ by several days.
Can You Earn The 40,000 Miles Faster?
If you want to earn the miles quicker it may help to call in and move the statement closing date forward as soon as you get approved for the card.
From data points it seems that the annual fee always posts on the second statement, so at a minimum it looks like it will take a portion of the first statement, plus the entire next statement cycle.
However, it may be possible to speed up this process closer to ~40 days if you are on the ball and able to move your statement closing date forward.✈ If you enjoyed this post sign-up to receive blog posts via email (max of 1 email per day) or like us on Facebook!
