The new IHG PointBreaks list goes live today and all hotels on the list will be bookable for 5,000 points per night. If you are new to PointBreaks take a look at my introduction to PointBreaks, but basically it is a promotion run by IHG that features select hotels at a hugely discounted nightly rate of only 5,000 points or $35 per night.
This can be an incredible deal if the travel dates and destination sync up for you and often a handful of InterContinental properties show up on the list!
The preview list is viewable here and the hotels on the list are usually bookable through this page between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM EST. Not all hotels become bookable at the same time, so if you want to grab a reservation at a property you picked out from the list, I recommend reloading the page around that time today Monday July 28th, 2014. There are only a certain number of award night reservation which can be made at the PointBreaks rate, so it is first come first serve and it can payoff to lock in your booking the minute the list goes live.
PointBreaks List Review for July 28 – September 30th, 2014
The list is not earth shattering and as always will vary on value depending on your travels. This list is particularly heavy on Central America (and Colombia) InterContinental Crowne Plazas including:
- InterContinental Cali
- InterContinental Costa Rica at Multiplaza Mall
- InterContinental Real Guatemala
- Intercontinental Miramar Panama
- Crowne Plaza Pedro Sula
For anyone booking a trip to Central America or Colombia these could be a great option for burning some IHG points at a top-tier IHG property for only 5,000 points per night. Remember, that you can buy IHG points for 0.7 cents each using the ‘cash & points’ trick, making each night cost only $35.
One other property that caught my eye was the InterContinental Bucharest, which will likely get snatched up quickly, so be ready to book this hotel if it’s on your list.
The remainder of the new list is fairly lackluster, but who knows, you may find value from it depending on your travel plans.
Have you stayed at any of these PointBreaks hotels? Do you plan on redeeming points this time?
