World of Hyatt definitely isn’t the biggest hotel loyalty program but it stands out from the competition with its luxury resorts, generous award chart, and great elite status benefits. Hyatt points are also one of the most valuable hotel points in the industry.
If you’re looking for world-class resorts and upscale boutique properties in far-flung corners of the world, the World of Hyatt program is a perfect fit. You can earn and redeem World of Hyatt points at nearly 1,000 Hyatt properties plus hundreds of participating Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) and M Life Rewards properties.
Ready to find out how you can use Hyatt points for the best possible value? This guide will go over the options for redeeming World of Hyatt points plus some of the best redemption options out there.
Quick Answer: How to Get Maximum Value from Hyatt Points
You’ll generally get the best value for your points when you use Hyatt points for free Hyatt award nights. To get the best value for your World of Hyatt points:
- Compare the cash price of the room to the cost in points. Pay in cash instead when you aren’t getting at least 1.7 cents per point.
- When booking an upgraded room, compare the cost of the upgraded room in points and the cost of upgrading a paid stay to get the best value.
- Remember the Points + Cash may be a better option when the property doesn’t give a good value for point stays.
- Book award stays at resorts to avoid costly resort fees which are waived on award stays but not Points + Cash bookings.
How to Use Hyatt Points
Despite being a fairly small hotel loyalty program compared to giants Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt is incredibly flexible and offers many ways to use Hyatt points — including redemptions at select brands outside of Hyatt! You’ll get the best value for your Hyatt points when you redeem points for free Hyatt stays, but you can also use your points for unique experiences, spa visits and fitness classes, dining, airfare, and more.
This in-depth guide goes over everything you should know about redeeming Hyatt points for the best value.
Redeem Hyatt Points for Reward Stays
Want to redeem Hyatt points at maximum value? Your best bet is to use World of Hyatt points for free Hyatt stays. World of Hyatt points are worth around 1.7 cents each but you can get a much higher value by strategically using your points to book hotels. In fact, you can even get an impressive value of up to 7 cents per point at Hyatt!
Here’s how to redeem Hyatt points at the best Hyatt hotels around the world to get the highest value for your points.
World of Hyatt Brands
You can use World of Hyatt points for free nights at any World of Hyatt brand — and even at MGM Resorts International and participating Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) properties. While the World of Hyatt doesn’t have a huge portfolio like Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy, their partnership with SLH and MGM helps expand their global offerings.
Hyatt offers a range of budget-friendly and luxury properties although most of their hotels and resorts fall into the upscale and luxury categories.
World of Hyatt Award Chart (How Many Points Do You Need for a Free Night?)
World of Hyatt makes it very easy to figure out how many Hyatt points you need to use for an award stay with a straightforward award chart. All Hyatt properties (and participating SLH and MGM properties) are assigned a hotel category. When you redeem Hyatt points, the hotel category determines how many points you need per night. This system is much easier to understand than dynamic pricing models like Hilton Honors and it remains the same during the off-season and peak season at the destination, unlike Marriott Bonvoy’s new pricing model.
At first glance, the World of Hyatt award chart to redeem World of Hyatt points can be confusing, especially once you notice there are several award charts depending on the Hyatt brand and the room type.
For most Hyatt award stays, the above Hyatt points redemption chart applies. So, how many Hyatt points for a free room? For a standard room, free nights start at just 5,000 points and max out at 40,000 points at the highest tier Hyatt properties. Booking an upgraded Club room or suite will cost more points.
There are separate Hyatt award charts for a handful of properties and the option to combine points and cash. These options are explained below.
Free Night Awards
The World of Hyatt program has a very generous award chart and an easy-to-understand rewards system — but it can be a bit confusing with the number of options you have when it comes to booking free night awards.
When you redeem Hyatt points for free night stays, you can choose between four types of rooms (standard, Regency/Grand Club, standard suite, and premium suite) then choose to pay all in points or a combination of cash and points. In addition to booking upgraded rooms with your points, you can also use points to upgrade a paid stay into a better room. There are even some Hyatt brands with separate award charts and a different award booking process.
Here’s everything to know about redeeming Hyatt points for free stays.
Standard Room Awards
The most common way to use World of Hyatt points for a free stay is redeeming for standard rooms. These are the most common types of rooms at virtually all Hyatt properties and they are the easiest to book.
To book a standard room, simply log into your World of Hyatt account and search for properties at your destination with the “Use Points” box checked. The first options you will see will be standard rooms.
Standard room redemptions start at just 5,000 points per night for category 1 hotels.
Regency/Grand Club Room Awards
The most basic type of upgraded room in World of Hyatt is a Grand Club or Regency Club room. These rooms are usually available at Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency properties and they give you access to the club lounges with complimentary drinks, continental breakfast, and hors d’oeuvres.
You can book a Club room directly with Hyatt points — although there’s a premium over the standard room award. For a category 1 hotel, you’ll need 7,000 points instead of 5,000; this increases to 27,000 points instead of 20,000 for a category 5 property. The number of points varies depending on the award category but it’s a premium of 30% to 50% on standard award rate.
With most properties, you can directly book a Club room as an award stay. This isn’t true with suite awards, which must be booked over the phone.
Standard Suite Awards
Want more room for a special occasion or because you’re traveling with family? The World of Hyatt allows you to directly book standard or premium suites with your Hyatt points.
A standard suite has a premium of about 60% over the standard award rate. At a category 1 hotel, this is 8,000 points instead of 5,000, or 48,000 points per night instead of 30,000 at a category 7 property.
When booking a suite, make sure you read the description carefully as it will note if the room is a “standard suite” or “premium suite” which have different categories.
It’s also important to note that you can get complimentary upgrades to suites with World of Hyatt elite status, although this isn’t a guarantee. To get a standard suite as a space-available upgrade at check-in, you need to be a Globalist. You can also earn Club and suite upgrades for hitting certain stay thresholds during the year to directly confirm an upgraded room.
Premium Suite Awards
The premium suite award option was introduced to the World of Hyatt program in 2018 and these suites are available at all hotels that consider themselves as having premium suites — with the exception of “named suites” like Premier, Presidential, or Diplomatic Suites which are exempt.
As a general rule, premium suites are the largest in the hotel and usually more than twice the size of a standard room with included executive lounge access, when available.
Premium suite awards are always double the standard award rate, such as 10,000 points instead of 5,000 points for a category 1 property.
Each property decides which rooms are classified as standard or premium suites, unfortunately, so there’s no telling exactly what you’ll get for the difference between the two.
Points + Cash
What if you don’t have enough Hyatt points saved up for an award stay, or you don’t want to deplete your account when you redeem World of Hyatt points for your next stay? World of Hyatt offers the Points + Cash option that lets you combine Hyatt points and cash to book your stay.
World of Hyatt has separate Points + Cash award charts to show you how many points and cash you need depending on the hotel category and room type. With the World of Hyatt, it’s harder to leverage the Points + Cash option for an even better value like you can do with Hilton Honors, for example, because all Points + Cash redemptions are simply 50% of the number of points plus 50% of the property’s standard rate for the night.
You can book Points + Cash stays online through your World of Hyatt account for almost all Hyatt properties as well as MGM Resorts Destinations. To use Points + Cash to book suites or stays at Miraval Resorts, Hyatt Ziva, or Hyatt Zilara, you need to call Hyatt at (866) 792-3395.
Room Upgrades
Hyatt properties have three types of upgraded rooms which depend on the property: standard suites, premium suites and Regency/Grand Club rooms. You can book a room upgrade in three ways:
- Redeeming Hyatt points for the premium room
- Booking a paid stay and upgrading with Hyatt points
- Booking a Points + Cash award stay (except with Club rooms)
We’ve already covered how to use World of Hyatt points for premium rooms and how to get upgrades with Points + Cash. Now let’s go over how to upgrade your paid room with points.
Hyatt has a simple chart for room upgrades on paid stays with upgrades starting at just 3,000 points per night.
Note that there’s some fine print on room upgrades. For example, Club upgrades aren’t valid at some brands like Hyatt House, Hyatt Zilara, Hyatt Ziva, and Miraval. There are also some properties excluded from suite upgrades like Park Hyatt Sydney and Hyatt Paris Madeleine.
All-Inclusive Resort Awards
Hyatt has two all-inclusive resort brands: Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara. Ziva is a family-friendly brand while Zilara properties are adults-only. These properties have their own award chart that’s based on whether you book a standard room or suite and varies by location. All stays are double occupancy; if more than two people will stay in the room, you need to pay an additional number of points per night.
Zilara and Ziva properties can use up a lot of points but remember that everything’s included, including excellent entertainment, authentic dining, and even local experiences. You’ll probably get a great value for your points at Ziva and Zilara properties — especially if you tend to spend a lot of dining when you travel.
Miraval Resort Awards
Hyatt has yet another award chart for a specific brand in its portfolio although, like Ziva and ZIlara, this award chart doesn’t apply to many properties. There are two Miraval Resort locations — both in the United States — with a third that will open in 2019. Miraval Resorts awards can offer a great value with luxury accommodations plus complimentary wellness activities, fine dining, and a $175 resort credit per person.
Because Miraval Resort Awards include so many extras, the price in points is single occupancy with an extra 20,000 points per night necessary for a second person. You can also book some Miraval Resort rooms with Points + Cash.
While Miraval Resort award stays will cost you a lot of points, it’s not uncommon for Miraval stays to cost more than $600 per night, even during the off season, and you also get a $175 resort credit plus complimentary meals, snacks, and activities.
If you decide to stay at a Miraval Resort location, look for a promotion from Hyatt to give you an even better value. Hyatt recently offered a lucrative bonus for 50% of your redeemed points back as a bonus on Miraval stays within a specific period of time.
To book a Miraval Resort award stay, you need to call Hyatt at (866) 792-3395 because these stays can’t be booked online.

Other Ways to Redeem Hyatt Points
You’ll probably get the best value for Hyatt points that are redeemed for free Hyatt award stays. With that said, you can use your Hyatt points for many other redemption options and experiences around the world — including award stays at properties outside the Hyatt brand. Some of these options even offer a decent value. Here are the ways to use Hyatt points without booking a Hyatt stay.
Book Stays at Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH)
Hyatt announced its partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) in August 2018 and it’s been quickly integrating SLH into the World of Hyatt program so you can earn Hyatt points and even redeem World of Hyatt points at participating SLH properties. There are currently several hundred SLH hotels and resorts that you can book for free with World of Hyatt points.
When you search for available properties, you’ll see SLH properties marked as a Member-Only Hotel and Exclusive to World of Hyatt Members. Note that some SLH properties have minimum stay requirements, especially the luxury resorts. You may not see available award rooms if your stay isn’t long enough.
Small Luxury Hotels of the World run the gamut of the World of Hyatt award chart. You’ll find some amazing SLH properties on the low end of the scale like The Walden in Taiwan for 12,000 Hyatt points per night and properties that will set you back like Severin’s The Alpine Retreat in Austria for 40,000 points per night.
Book Stays at MGM Resorts International
Hyatt doesn’t just let you earn and redeem Hyatt points at SLH: you can do the same at partner MGM Resorts International properties. The World of Hyatt has partnered with M life Rewards to give you matched M life Rewards tier status based on your Hyatt elite status for even greater rewards.
You can redeem Hyatt points for free stays at participating M life Rewards properties including: Bellagio®, ARIA™, Vdara™, MGM Grand®, The Signature at MGM Grand®, Mandalay Bay®, Delano Las Vegas, The Mirage®, Monte Carlo™, New York New York™, Luxor® and Excalibur®.
To redeem your World of Hyatt points at MGM properties in Las Vegas, you will need to book through Hyatt.com or by calling Hyatt customer service. Each M life Rewards property is assigned a category on the World of Hyatt award chart. For example, MGM Grand® is a category 4 hotel while Bellagio® is a category 6 property.
Note: While World of Hyatt members enjoy waived resort fees on award stays, you will need to pay resort fees when you book free nights at M life Rewards properties.
Transfer Hyatt Points to Travel Partners
Don’t want to use Hyatt points for a free stay? You can use your points indirectly for airfare by transferring Hyatt points to airline partners. Before you get excited about transferring Hyatt points, keep in mind this option usually won’t give you a good value.
With most travel partners, you’ll have to transfer points at a ratio of 1,250 Hyatt points to 500 miles or 2.5 to 1.
Some partners have different transfer ratios. For example, transferring 5,000 Hyatt points will get you 4,000 Aeromexico points, 3,000 Virgin Atlantic miles, 2,400 Southwest Airlines miles, or just 2,000 AAdvantage miles.
Whether or not this is a good value depends on how you plan to use your miles. For example, AAdvantage miles can be worth anywhere from 1.6 cents to 5 cents each. Hyatt points are worth around 1.7 cents each, depending on how they’re used. If you’re transferring your Hyatt points for international American Airlines travel, you may be getting a very good value — but make sure you do the math first.
Hyatt has 24 airline partners with which you can transfer points to miles — or even earn miles instead of points for Hyatt stays. Partners include:
- American Airlines
- British Airways
- Delta Airlines
- Emirates Skywards
- Hawaiian Airlines
- Southwest Airlines
- United Airlines

Redeem Hyatt Points for Experiences
Want to use your Hyatt points for unique or luxurious experiences? There are a few ways to redeem Hyatt points for fun or relaxing activities.
FIND is the wellness-focused platform from Hyatt that lets you find and book unique experiences at global destinations. You can earn 10x Hyatt points on FIND experiences or redeem Hyatt points through the FIND platform. There are two types of experiences on FIND: some you can buy outright with points and some you need to bid for.
There are currently over 130 experiences in more than 35 destinations to explore. Some experiences are at Hyatt locations like spa experiences at Hyatt Ziva Cancun at $170 per person (or 12,143 points for a value of 1.4 cents each). Others are in popular destinations like private feeding and goat yoga with the founders of Goat Yoga Las Vegas for $31 to $150 per person (or 2,200 to 10,714 points per person).
You can generally expect a value of around 1.4 cents each when you use points for FIND experiences. You can do much better by using your points for Hyatt stays.
One of the most unique experiences you can enjoy through World of Hyatt is Lindblad Expeditions. Explore some of the most remote and beautiful locations on earth on adventure cruises with Lindblad Expeditions to places like the Galápagos, Antarctica, and Alaska. You can soon redeem points for Lindblad Expeditions and buy curated experiences for Lindblad Expeditions through FIND.
You can also use Hyatt points at Exhale spa locations. Exhale offers boutique fitness classes and spa therapy treatments and serves 11 regions like Chicago, Miami, and New York. Hyatt points can be used at Exhale for fitness classes (2,000 points each) or 60-minute spa treatments (12,000 points). You’ll need to link your Exhale and Hyatt accounts to earn and redeem points, though.
60-minute massages and facials range from $150 to $220 at Exhale. That gives you a value of 1.25 to 1.83 cents per point — a decent value considering it’s a non-Hyatt reward.
Redeem for On-Property Meeting, Spa, and Dining Credits
World of Hyatt points can be used for spa, meeting, and dining credits at worldwide Hyatt properties. As a general rule, you won’t get a very good value with this option, however.
A $10 dining and spa certificate can cost 2,000 Hyatt points which gives you a very low value of 0.5 cents per point, less than one-third of the expected value per point. For meeting credits, redemptions start at 15,000 points for a $200 credit.
Redeem Hyatt Points for Rental Cars
This redemption option isn’t well advertised but it’s an option to keep in mind. You can redeem 6,000 Hyatt points for a one-day Avis rental of an intermediate-sized car.
This redemption option doesn’t have a fixed value. In just a few locations in Chicago, an intermediate car rental can cost $38 to $64. This gives you a redemption value of 0.6 to 1.06 cents per point — well below the typical value of 1.7 cents per point of World of Hyatt points.
Even if you can get a better value with an Avis rental, it’s still better to book a car rental with a credit card that gives you car rental coverage instead of using your Hyatt points. If you do decide to use this option, you need to book your car rental by calling (800) 544-9288.
