One of the major perks of Hyatt Diamond status include the four Diamond Suite Upgrade Awards each year. The upgrade certificates can be used on any eligible paid rate including Points + Cash rates and your suite is confirmed at time of booking.

Hyatt Diamond Suite Upgrade Awards

Every program year, Hyatt Diamond members get four suite upgrades that can be applied on a stay up to 7 consecutive nights. The current 2014 program year certificates expire on February 28, 2015, however Hyatt allows you to use them on future stays as long as you redeem them before the expiration date. It’s important to note, if you cancel the stay after the expiration you will forfeit the upgrade certificate.

How to Redeem

Each Diamond Suite Upgrade Award can be used to confirm a suite upgrade at the time of booking for stays up to 7 consecutive nights.

To confirm that a suite is available during your stay, you can search online, however you can not apply the upgrade certificate online. Diamond members have to call 800.400.2261 to redeem Diamond Suite Upgrade Awards over the phone. You can apply the suite upgrade from the time of booking up until the day of the stay as long as there is availability.

If you have stay longer than seven nights and there is suite availability you have the option to use two upgrade awards to guarantee an upgrade during the entire stay.

Which Rates are Eligible

Diamond Suite Upgrade Awards can be applied towards paid bookings including Points + Cash rates. However, they cannot be applied to full points award nights.

If you book a back-to-back paid or Points + Cash rate combined with a full points night, you cannot apply the upgrade to the full award night and it is ultimately at the hotels discretion to allow you to stay in the suite or move you to a standard award room.

How to Find Out Which Suite You Will Get

In almost all cases Diamond Suite Upgrade Awards will be for an upgrade to the first level suite. The easiest way to find out which suite you will get is by searching on the hotel’s website and find the lowest level suite (e.g. lowest priced suite per night). If the suite is available during the nights of your stay, you should be able to use an upgrade certificate to confirm that room.

In general and per the terms, upgrade awards are not valid toward Specialty, Premier, Presidential or Diplomatic Suites, but as a Diamond member you may be upgraded to a higher room level upon arrival.

There are limited suites available for Diamond Suite Upgrade Awards at each property, but as far as I know this just means that if the lowest level suite is available you can confirm it for an upgrade award. However in practice, it’s possible that some hotels may release only a certain number of suites per night.

When Do They Expire?

Hyatt Diamond Suite Upgrade Awards are valid until the end of the program year in February. The current 2014 program year certificates are valid for bookings made from March 1, 2014 to February 28, 2015. Be sure to apply any suite upgrades before they expire if you have upcoming stays.

One thing to remember is that you do not have to complete the stay before the expiration date, but rather you must book the stay and apply the upgrade award. If a stay in which you applied an upgrade is cancelled after the expiration date, you will forfeit the upgrade award.

Eligible Hyatt Properties

There are several properties that are not valid for Diamond Suite Upgrade Awards. Per Hyatt’s terms and conditions you cannot used upgrade awards at any of these hotels:

“Upgrade awards are not available at Hyatt Regency Kyoto, Hyatt Regency Paris-Madeleine, Park Hyatt Sydney and Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort, Hyatt Place, Hyatt Summerfield Suites or Hyatt Residence Group resorts.”

Here’s a quick recap of the rules and how to use them:

• Each Diamond Suite Upgrade Award can be used to confirm a suite upgrade at the time of booking for stays up to seven consecutive nights.

• Suite upgrade award redemptions cannot be made online, so you’ll have to call in to confirm them over the phone.

The most valuable aspect of Hyatt’s upgrade awards is that they are valid on Points + Cash stays, which means it’s possible to confirm a night in a suite at a super low cost rate and an easy way to stay in some incredible Hyatt properties.
