5 Great Uses of 40,000 Frontier Airlines Miles

The Frontier Airlines World MasterCard® is currently offering 40,000 EarlyReturns miles after spending $500 in the first 90 days of card membership. This is the highest offer I have seen for this card and is worth 2 round trip flights within the US and it does include Alaska!

Any round trip flight to Alaska during the summer that is under $400 is a great deal, so 40,000 Frontier miles could easily be worth ~$800+ in free flights when redeemed for trips to Anchorage or Fairbanks.

For having a low minimum spend of $500, the 40,000 miles is a great bonus and can get you:

  • 2 round trip awards anywhere Frontier flies within the US, including Alaska
  • 1 round trip award anywhere Frontier flies in Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Frontier’s hub is out of Denver and they fly to more destinations that I would have expected.

On Frontier you can fly to Alaska, Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica.

It only costs 20,000 miles for a domestic round trip flight within the US, including Alaska. Frontier has the cheapest round trip domestic award ticket prices among all major airlines.

You can fly to Central America or Mexico for only 30,000 miles round trip. This is also the cheapest award price among all major US carriers.

You can book one-way awards for half price and will not pay any fuel surcharges on Frontier awards. This means that taxes and fees are super cheap, only $5 for domestic awards and ~$20+ for international awards.

5 Great Uses of 40,000 Frontier Miles

40,000 Miles and $10 for 2 Round Trip Awards to Alaska (Anchorage or Fairbanks)

With 40,000 Frontier miles you can book two round trip awards to Alaska. I searched for award space availability from Denver to Alaska during June and found amazing availability. The award seat availability is much better than what United is currently offering.

It’s only 10,000 miles and $2.50 in taxes and fees each way to Alaska, and would run ~$238 if you purchased the ticket from Frontier. Two round trip flights to Alaska at 40,000 miles could be worth ~$952 in free flights.

30,000 Miles for 1 Round Trip Award to Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, or Costa Rica

You can fly on any Frontier flights to Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, or Costa Rica for only 30,000 miles and $19 to $106 in taxes and fees.

This is the cheapest way to get down to Mexico and Central America, and a big plus is that you won’t pay fuel surcharges on any Frontier flights.

I priced out an award to Costa Rica and it would only cost 30,00 miles and $19 taxes and fees round trip. You would even have 10,000 miles from the bonus left after this award.

40,000 Miles and $10 for 2 Round Trip Awards Anywhere in the US

You can get two round trip domestic awards to anywhere Frontier flies within the US. It only costs 10,000 miles and $2.50 to book a one-way award on Frontier. Some of the better values include flying from Los Angeles to New York or other cross-country routes that can easily cost $400+ per round trip.

Book Companion Award Tickets for 5,000 Fewer Miles

With The Frontier Airlines World MasterCard® you can book a Companion Award Ticket for 5,000 fewer miles than the normal award price. This is a great way to make the miles go even farther. However, the primary ticket has to be a paid fare.

As long as the card member purchases a ticket, they can book a round trip companion award for 15,000 miles.

One trick that has been discussed in the past is to book a one-way companion awards and still get the 5,000 mile discount. If this loophole still exists, then you can fly a companion along with you on a paid flight for only 10,000 miles!

A potential drawback of the companion award tickets is that the seats are based on availability and are capacity controlled. I don’t have any experience using this benefit, but if you do, then please share in the comments below!

1 Free Weekly Car Rental with Hertz or National

You can redeem Frontier miles with partners that include Radisson hotels, Hertz, and National rental cars. A week car rental in the summer can easily cost $600+, so you could get $600 in free car rentals with 40,000 Frontier miles.

A free week-long midsized car rental with National only costs 37,000 miles. I just did a quick search for a week rental in San Francisco this summer and it came out to ~$600. The only location the terms state that you can’t rent form is in Manhattan, NY.

Frontier is also partnered with Hertz which means that you can redeem your miles for potentially 45,000 miles which is worth free weekly rentals on a SUV or minivan. Valid locations include Hertz airport locations in the US (excluding New York Tri-State Metropolitan area, Alaska or Hawaii).

Important Award Booking Tip

I found a very important booking tip when I was looking for award space. When searching for an award flight, you are directed to the date you selected and there are tabs that show the award price for the days before and after the date you picked. Those page tabs don’t necessarily show you the cheapest award price so you have to click it open to see the actual price.

The lowest award price shows 20,000 miles. Not true!

After searching for an award flight, I noticed that the page will not display all of the lowest award price for the days just before and after the searched date.

Click day-by-day on the weekly calendar to find all award option prices

You can easily click day-by-day through the week and it will show ALL of the award price options available for that day.
