Hilton and American Express recently announced that cardholders of the Hilton HHonors Surpass Credit Card will get free Hilton HHonors Gold Status. The additional perk went into place as of November 10, 2013. The card previously offered cardholders Gold Status for only the first year, and to maintain the status they'd have to spend $20,000 in eligible purchases each year.

The new perk of automatic Gold Status brings the Amex card toe-to-toe with the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card, which offers cardmembers Gold Status and Diamond status if they spend $40,000 a year on the card. However with the Surpass card you will earn 2x on every dollar spent and the annual fee is $20 less per year. Both of these cards are a easy way to quickly get Hilton Gold Status.
