Chase recently updated their Refer-A-Friend program and the changes appear to be deeper than just design.
Via this Reddit thread it now appears that more cardholders are eligible to generate a referral link—which means more miles and points!
You may be able to create a referral link on your card even if you were not eligible in the past, so be sure to double check your Chase cards by entering your information through their website.
Chase Refer-A-Friend Program
If you are not already familiar with the program, Chase’s Refer-A-Friend program periodically offers some of it’s cardholders a way to earn bonus points by referring people to apply for a credit card.

It works by awarding you bonus miles and points for referring friends and family to apply for a Chase credit card which you currently have open.
You will earn 5,000 to 10,000 bonus points (varies by card) for each person who applies and is approved for a credit card through your referral link. The maximum points you are allowed to earn per calendar year is 50,000 bonus points.
Chase credit cards that are included the Refer-A-Friend program include:
- Chase Freedom
- Chase Freedom Unlimited
- Chase Sapphire Preferred
- Chase Ink Plus
- Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card
- United MileagePlus Explorer Card
- Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Visa Credit Card
As of now it appears that the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card is not yet included in the Chase Refer-A-Friend program, however that does not mean that it will excluded in the future.
Chase normally allows referrals on credit cards after 3 months of account opening, so this may also be the case with the Sapphire Reserve.
How to Create a Referral Link
To check to see if any of your Chase credit cards are eligible to create a referral link you will need to enter information based on your account.
You will need to enter this information for each card you want to check:
- Last name
- Zip code
- Last 4 digits on your card
Note that you will need to check each card individually since it does not pull up your eligibility for your other Chase credit cards.
That said, if one of your Chase credit cards is not eligible be sure to click “Try Again” to check your other cards.
If you receive a message saying “Thank you for visiting Chase. Our systems indicate that you are already logged into the Refer-A-Friend website. Please close any other open sessions and try again.” you can try to open a new session in private browsing or incognito more.
The Bottom Line
With this new update it’s worth checking to see if any of your Chase credit cards are eligible to generate a referral link.
Overall, this is good news if more people are able to create a referral link and means potentially earning more points for anyone who holds a Chase credit card!
