US Bank just released two new FlexPerks credit cards on the market. Both cards are American Express branded credit cards and earn valuable FlexPerks, which are US Banks type of bank-point which have a huge value when redeemed for airline tickets.

FlexPerks can be redeemed for airfare, statement credits, and gift cards. The best value redemption by far is to redeem FlexPerks points for airline tickets and you’ll get a whopping 2.0 cents per point.

You can get $400 in free airfare with the 20,000 FlexPerks point bonus offered on the U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Travel Rewards American Express® Card. Apart from the sign-up bonus these cards may be worth it to some with their incredible valuable bonus spending categories and high-value points.

Let’s take a quick look at both of the two new US Bank FlexPerks Amex Cards.

U.S. Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards American Express Card

The U.S. Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards American Express Card is almost identical to the U.S. Bank Perks+ Visa Signature Card®—both are the most valuable and highest earning FlexPerks earning cards. The 20,000 bonus point sign-up bonus after spending $3,500 within the first four months is a lucrative bonus offer and is worth $400 in free airline tickets.

The highlight of this card is that it earns 2X FlexPoints on gas, grocery, or airfare —whichever category you spend the most on each month. This means using it at gas stations or grocery stores could be a incredibly valuable way to accrue a lot of FlexPoints.

And since Flexpoint is worth 2 cents each this means you’re earning 4% back on every dollar spent in the bonus category (either gas or grocery). This could make it among the tops cards to have if you frequently spend big at grocery stores or gas stations.

It even out earns the Barclays Arrival Plus card because FlexPoints are worth close to twice as much per point! I love my Arrival Plus card for everyday purchases, but I’m definitely considering applying for this card just to have for grocery spending the coming year.

Here are the full card details:

  • Earn 20,000 enrollment FlexPoints with a new FlexPerks Travel Rewards Card after you spend $3,500 in Net Purchases (purchases minus credits and returns) on your Card within the first four months of account opening.
  • 2X FlexPoints at restaurants and on fast food. Plus, use your Card at select membership warehouse clubs.
  • 2X FlexPoints on gas, grocery or airfare – whichever you spend most on each monthly billing cycle – and on most cell phone expenses.
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees.*
  • Award travel starts at just 20,000 FlexPoints (up to a $400 ticket value) on over 150 airlines with no blackout dates or online redemption fees
  • Redemption starts at just 5,000 FlexPoints for merchandise, gift cards, statement credits and more.

This card could be a great option for big spenders in grocery or gas every month. The points could be incredibly valuable for purchasing flights when you don’t have enough flexibility redeeming traditional airline miles for an award ticket.

U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Select+ American Express® Card

This card does not have an annual fee, but the FlexPoints earning potential is also much lower. In my opinion the US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards American Express Card may be well worth paying the $49 annual fee if you are going to be spending a lot on the bonus categories.

  • Earn 10,000 enrollment FlexPoints after you spend $1,000 in Net Purchases (purchases minus credits and returns) on your Card within the first four months of account opening.
  • Use your Card at select membership warehouse clubs and for everyday purchases.
  • 1 FlexPoint for every $1 in Net Purchases.
  • No annual fee.*
  • Redemption starts at just 5,000 FlexPoints for merchandise, gift cards, statement credits and more.
  • An airline award ticket starts at just 20,000 FlexPoints (up to $400 value).

There really is not much allure to this card if you can use the benefits of the annual fee version. You will easily reaps the benefits of paying the annual fee if you spend a lot in grocery/gas categories and redeem a few award tickets.

What are US Bank FlexPoints?

US Bank FlexPerks earning credit cards earn FlexPoints which can be redeemed for paid airline tickets, statement credits, or gift cards.

Unlike other bank-points such as Chase’s Ultimate Rewards and Amex’s Membership Rewards these cannot be transferred directly to travel partners, such as airlines and hotels.

The best value use is to redeem FlexPoints on paid airline tickets, which also gives you amazing flexibility since you can purchase any flight you want and redeem points to cover it. With 20,000 FlexPoints you can get a free flight up to $400, thus each point is worth 2.0 cents each.

US Bank allows you to redeem FlexPoints on over 150 Airlines, you can find them all here.

What are FlexPoints Worth?

Value of FlexPoints:

  • Redeem for statement credits/gift cards: 1.0 cent each
  • Redeem for paid flights: 2.0 cents each

When FlexPoints are redeemed for statement credits and gift cards you’ll only get 1.0 cent in value per point.

You will get much more value when you redeem FlexPoints for paid airline tickets. Each point is worth up to 2.0 cents a piece when redeeming 20,000 points or more. Another benefit is that you earn airline miles for flying on the flights you redeemed FlexPoints to pay for.

U.S. Bank breaks down FlexPoints redemptions into ticket price categories and you will get the highest value is when you redeem FlexPoints at the maximum allowed in each category.

Best Use of U.S. Bank FlexPoints

You can redeem 20,000 FlexPoints for an airline ticket up to $400 in value. This means you will pay 20,000 points for any airline ticket below the $400 limit as well.

Therefore you will get the most value when you buy an airline ticket at the maximum allowed within each FlexPoints redemption category ($400, $600, $800, and so on following the reward chart).
